graphic card for 3d how to choose?

hey all
i am going to buy a new computer since i am working in maya 8.5 and start
working with zbrush too, though i am just a beginer.
my present computer get stuck alot wit this programs and i decided to put
about 3,500-4,000 us dollar to buy a new one .

ok now about the graphic card:

i wanted to buy the leadtek 8800gtx 768mb which is very good for game and stuff, but i realized that there are the quardo graphic cards that more suitable
for 3d programs.

can anyone tell me which one is better ,although there are many of the quardo types, for 3d softwares.

and also i decided to get the intel pentium core 2 extreme 6850qx, although it is very expansive, but can anyone tell me if there is maybe other good posibilities i can go on with?

thanks in advance for looking into it…

Hey. I just got a 8800gtx 768mb about a week ago, and it runs incredibly smooth in zbrush. However if your going Windows x64… then do not get this card. In zbrush it runs GREAT, but in Maya 8.5 there is a big bug in perspective viewport which makes it impossible to model and it is yet to be patched… So great card for Zbrush, but for Maya not really. and this is on 64bit.

I thought I read somewhere on here that ppl where having problems running Vista and Z3?
Personally I am waiting till after Christmas which by that time all the prices will drop and most of the bugs will be out of all the hardware/software.

Just seems to be a bad time to buy a comp myself with all the problems out there with the hardware not being compatabile not only with the softwares but he OS’s themselves.

I did read that on a windows xp system Maya ran MUCH faster then on a Vista system.

A tip would be to buy Vista full version yourself rather then having the company you buy your comp from put it on (it is not hard but research before you think of doing this)
The reason is so you not only get the 64 bit version but when you buy retail you also get the 32 bit version in the same box.
