GoZ Transfer problem ClmglOException. Jpg texture problem

Hey everyone, I’m having a new problem with ZBrush 2020. I’m trying to GoZ my finished model to ZBrush. This is basically my first UV’d and textured model I’ve ever sent to ZBrush and I got this failure:

CImgIOException.
(Instance(0,0,0,0,000000000000000000, non-shared)) Clmg:load(): Failed to recognize format of file ‘C:\User ----path---- \Hair Front.jpg’.

(I’m going to try to attach a screenshot)
cimgi

Anyways, this model piece is simple. It’s UV’d nicely and simply, and the texture is a simple .jpg export from Krita. Does anyone know what’s causing this?

I’m going to keep looking as deeply as I can for a fix. I’m looking forward to seeing this in ZBrush. I’m using ZBrush 2020 and 3DS Max 2016.

Okay, I’ve made sure Z2019 was completely uninstalled. I completely reinstalled 2020 from scratch and the problem still persists. I reinstalled GoZ completely.

I tried using other jpgs and tgas not made in krita. Even basic tutorial bitmaps from Max and random pictures on my computer. The model will goz with any basic material applied, just not with any texture applied.

Edit, I’ll worry about the reinstall issue later as not to sidetrack my own thread.

Here’s what I tried and still getting the same issue:
I was able to import the model manually and apply the texture and it looks nice
But for some reason, and I don’t know if it’s supposed to or not, but when I export the .obj from max (with export textures) checked, the zbrush import doesn’t have textures already applied.

I erased all the goz plugins in max did a reinstall of z again and goz again, and it still throws that error. Maybe the keyword is “shared” in the error. But I have my antivirus wide open for zbrush and wide open for max, all the GoZ folders in my users\public folder set to not read-only.

I think there is either a problem in the Max GoZ plugins, or something is wrong with that folder

Hello @PrinceSquare

Sorry you’re having some trouble!

The most obvious thing to me would be to try a different image file type, since ZB appears to not like the .jpg that your target app is creating for whatever reason. PSDs tend to be the most trouble free format in my experience.

Also, be sure to read all available documentation on GoZ, and especially its restrictions.

Failing that and for your installation issues I’m going to recommend you create a Support ticket. I have no way of testing your specific workflow.

Well, I just had an eye opening experience instead of searching google, I searched the forums. There is a HUGE amount of information in these forums that I never see on google, and that’s awesome.

It seems a lot of people have issues with things not working right for various reasons, so I’m glad I’m not alone. I couldn’t find anyone with the same CIMGIO error that I’m having though.

I did try using jpgs all over my computer and none of them worked, neither .tga. Not a single one works. I now purchase all of my software in full, and don’t use Photoshop, but I do have Gimp, I’ll see if I can make a PSD. one moment…

Dagonnit. PSD’s are a no go as well. That non-shared following the exception name, may be the place where the type of error is listed. I wonder what non-shared could refer to.

I’m willing to do all of this manually. But if there is a bug in Zbrush, I hope someone maybe marks it down to be looked into.
But, if it’s something about this non-shared biz, I need to try and figure out what that means. I’ll try everything I can think of.

Oh and again, thanks for your links, looking now.

That will only happen if you make a Support ticket, and document your issue with them. We try to be helpful here, but we’re just users like you and do not develop the program.

Thanks again Spyndel. I submitted a ticket. I’m looking forward to them helping with this and share what I find out.

For now, I don’t have any problem doing it manually it will just be quite a bit slower, but that’s okay.

Crazy! This may be some crazy permissions issue. I haven’t made any permissions changes on this computer,
Okay so here is what I did, I removed The Users/public/Pixologic/GoZApps/Max/max 2016 folder, because the files in it are dated a loooong time ago, so I thought maybe GoZ was overlooking them as being installed. So I removed that single folder.

now, when I force reinstall of GoZ I get this weird error:
zbrushadmin
So, I go and try it as admin, and it shows the exact same error.

I didn’t modify any files inside Prgfiles/max/… but, what I’m saying is, maybe it’s not modifying them either? Maybe the correct setup of GoZ is not being written in.

I’ve been having strange permissions issues since Windows last update. When I try to save from Unfold3D to desktop, it says I don’t have permission to save there, and now this. I’m starting to wonder if something is wrong.

When I put the ‘2016’ folder back, GoZ appears to install normally.

Wow! I found the answer!!!

Controlled Folder Access.

Okay so I use Comodo, but the problem stems from a Windows Security method. If one has Controlled Folder Access turned on, it prevents you from saving files to certain folders such as documents, desktop etc.

I was having this exact problem. With Krita and other programs I could save common file types to desktop, such as jpg, psd, kra, but I couldn’t save seldom used files to desktop: obj, exr, r32, etc.

So, when I tried to access Controlled Folder Access, it was kinda “blocked” and reading further I found that’s normal when you are running a 3rd party antivirus program. So I went into Comodo. I turned everything OFF, because I couldn’t find how to delicately fix this, and sure enough, with it off, GOZ from Max works as expected.

I’m now reading how to allow the right way through Comodo.
It doesn’t looks as easy as turning an option off
