Good tutorial for making the best possible base mesh?

I make my bases with zspheres, silo, but I know the edge flow is not the best.

Any tutorials for these? (poly modeling of course) There’s a lot of tutos everywhere but mostly for finished characters, not for making a base mesh.

Thanks.

Heya,

You can edit your topology with the Retopo tools. More info here:

Basically, the base mesh should contain enough geometry for your eventual sculpt.

Say if you plan to sculpt high levels of detail on the charatcer’s forehead, make sure you have enough geometry there.

If the mesh is meant to be rigged and animated, the edge flow should support the movement of the limbs. A good example would be if you put your hand up, you will notice your chest muscles being stretched upwards as well.
This explains why the in most muscular models, there is an edge flow from the chest muscles to the arm.

hope this helps!
