Going from zsphere to real sculpting?

First, before I begin this post, I hope that I’m in the right section.

Okay, so I get the rough idea of how to make things with the…zsphere thing, but what I come up with it a rough…bumpy thing that can’t be edited like a normal sculpture. (The only way I know this is I tried to use sculptris) So I’m wondering, how do I take my figure that I’ve made with zspheres, and turn it into something that I can actually add detail to, or at least make it look like it has a face?
Thank you for wasting your time on a complete noob.

Use Tool>Adaptive Skin>Make Adaptive Skin to calculate the final 3D mesh based on your current ZSphere structure. You can then export that mesh to other apps or sculpt it in ZBrush to your heart’s content.

You can also sculpt in ZBrush while still ZSpheres although there are some things you can’t do such as partial subdivision. To accomplish this, make sure your ZSphere structure is finalized. Then press Tool>Morph Target>StoreMT while the ZSpheres are visible. This tells ZBrush to calculate a sculptable mesh from the current ZSpheres. Now whenever you press A to turn on the preview it will always use the pre-calculated mesh. That means you can sculpt and paint. You can still move ZSpheres around to repose the mesh but do not add or remove any as this will force a new mesh calculation and destroy any sculpting or painting you’ve done.

Thank you very much. I probably would have been in the dark for quite a while had you not helped me!

Sorry for the double post, but in order to keep asking questions I would have to make more threads which would be pointless.

It won’t let me make the adaptive skin. I mean, I can press A, and this mesh thing comes up and everything. I can edit it and mess around with it, but the Adaptive skin tool is … grayed out. Perhaps there’s some video tutorial or something? I’m trying to get to the step where I can actually play with clay so to speak. :frowning:

In the Tool panel when you are in preview mode by pressing “A” a button will show up that says Make Polymesh. When you push it Zbrush will add the mesh version of your Zspheres to your tool palette. It will read something like PM3D_Zsphere. If you click on that you now will be working on the actual mesh. You can tweek it from there with your move brush or whatever you choose and subdivide for detail. Ctrl-D a few times to subdivide and it will smooth out, but you want to shape your mesh at a lower subdivision for good flow when you detail at a higher subdivision level. Note: when you switch tools from the preview mesh to the PM3D_Zsphere it will not be in Symmetry mode. Push “X” for Symmetry mode.
