Glowing Shadows / Shadowy Glass - Help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Brj2RIXV7_s

In the first minute of this link we see a brain but its glows like a neon object its completely transparent yet you can see the shape of the model from the lights it casts. Or maybe object is transparent but the shadows are glowing? I’m not sure but i desperately need to create that effect. I tried to give the object glass like effect in maya, im not really getting the effect im looking for. I combined ramp and some other shaders with the Glass effect i created. Also this is a model from Zbrush and it has a displacement map on.

I used this tutorial " http://www.digitaltutors.com/forum/s…ZBrush-to-Maya " to come this far.

Do you have any idea about to how to create that effect?

Is there maybe a way to achieve this on after effects?

I know this isn’t really Zbrush Central material… But i did model the brain on zbrush

Thank you in advance,

I would probably approach this in layers and re composite it in aftereffects.

First layer would be the glass type outline on a black background, set to ‘screen’

Then would be the brain layer, rendered out relatively plainly with an alpha channel. --> In aftereffects use a glow filter to achieve the desired effect

Then the background layer a flat black, or subtle gradient.

Aftereffects is great for this kind of thing, as you don’t have to re-render every time to make minor tweaks. Good luck!
