Girl in Progress

Been messing around with ZBrush for ages now just as a hobby and recently getting to grips with ZB 2… what a fantastic program. This project has been on the go for a couple of weeks and is the first time I’ve tried to model a full figure and my first attempt at ears! I’ve been experimenting with editing a zsphere figure in preview mode at different levels of subdivision. She’s poseable to some extent but the mesh starts to break up a bit if the limb movements are too extreme. Hope to finish her soon and then move on to edge loops.

Learning a bit about anatomy aswell as a lot about ZBrush. Hope to get this completed very soon… my old G4 Mac is creaking a bit at the higher subdivision levels but the ability to hide parts of the mesh in ZB 2 is fantastic. I also love the pinch and smooth tools. Grateful for any feedback… thanks.

I don´t know very much about anatomy, but for me she has:

  • Too big head
  • Too short arms
  • Too big tits
  • Too thin legs, & have a look on her hips - She’s a woman, my friend !

Otherwise, i like she. Pretty face :+1: :+1: & I like the area ‘round the neck and the collar neck or like fckn’ is its name…

Hi Tim,

Not a bad model. Don’t really want to comment on anatomy because it is a wip and I really don’t know what your intentions are for her or how realistic you are trying to make her…other than…just use as many reference sources and anatomy books as are available to you and keep on doing what you are doing!

Did you save the zspheres as a morph target before posing? You might find that a bit helpful!

Hi Tim,

Any updates on the figure?

I know what you mean about learning anatomy as you go through projects like this. It makes you think about things you’ve never thought about before.

Good luck.

Is she home tonight?
Nice job.
One of the worst things about modelling a human
is that there are millions of different shapes and sizes
and someone will always look at what amounts to a months
work and say “Big ears”.
I always wondered where they met the model I had based
my work on.

hi bicc

I reckon they met her sister at Models 'r' Us and figured the sister should look just like her!! If only that were so in real life! Then we could all be perfectly symmetrical, big boobed, big packaged, rippling muscle hemen and women.

I prefer the odd looking model…symmetry is good on paper but in life…well good luck!! Anyone can model a perfect symmetrical being…not everyone can give it character or tell a story. So my friend, keep on zbrushing!!

big head ,big try .

Her topology is intriguing. If you’re planning to export your model for animation, one subdivision above your base might be quite usable. Maybe. I can’t really guess without seeing that wireframe, but I can tell you that at this level, a displacement map would stretch and deform unpredictably at the elbows when she bends her arms.

But, it’s very close, and impressive how clean that turned out regardless. Strategically inserting more ZSpheres would add edge loops where you need 'em, but this would unfortunately throw away all your Edit Mode modeling. Which is why I suggest just abandoning the lowest subdivision level or two when you’re ready to export – there’s less control in that solution, but I think it’ll get the job done.

Thanks for all the comments, suggestions and encouragement… It’s very much appreciated. I haven’t done any more work on her in the last couple of weeks because I’ve been busy with work and the kids are off school!.. This is sadly for me just a hobby. I agree that the head and boobs are too big etc. but I shall work more on the proportions once I’ve finished the modelling. I think it was Aminuts who asked if I’d saved the ZSphere model as a Morph target… well yes I have so I’ve found out I can scale the limbs and body parts fairly easily by going back to that aswell as changing the pose. I have no particular aim in mind for this model other than to see what I can achieve in the quest to learn this marvelous program ZBrush. Thanks again for your interest. Hope to post the finished work real soon.
