Is their any limitations as far as exporting into Gimp vs Photoshop?

Gimp should work with ZApp link, according to the documentation in which it is specifically named. It requires an editor capable of editing .PSDs. GIMP can do this to the best of my knowledge, but there may be limitations as to what it can do to those .PSDs. Refer to the documentation for your image editor.
Otherwise, it just comes down supported file formats. Zbrush supports specific file formats, and as long as your image editor can import and export these there shouldn’t be an issue.
