Using 2018 version I have loaded a ztl file of a 3D model into our tool pallette in our shelf. I cannot load it into the work area, to work on it or save it. I want to work on the model, then save it, and be able to put it into a file to send by email… I am new to ZBrush and want to learn. Thanks for any help.

You should upgrade to the most recent version of Zbrush. This is free for registered users, and it comes with new features fixes. Outdated versions of the program are not officially supported, and it impairs our ability help you if we have to factor in possible issues with obsolete program versions.
In Zbrush, you must first draw a tool out on the canvas and enter edit mode in order to edit it as a 3d object.
