Looks like they are going to be able to change anything they want from the games storyline… The only thing ID requested is the main character be named John.
LOL, here is some speculation of what doom might be. Here Is my Spoof of what will happen in Doom : the movie… Feel free to add onto it if you wish 
First off there has to be an arch enemy, this bad guy will do something in the start of the movie to make everyone hate him (Yes Him, Hollywood is very Sexist IMHO, Most evil people have to be a big ugly male human or monster)
The bad guy will have Killed Johns family, and John is a rebel orphan now. he also killed his first Love and Johns faithful dog “Scooter”.
John has a cute little robot side kick named “Oobadoo”, between action scenes there will be cute little antics from this lovable little robot. Who also gets killed by the bad guy near the end of the move. After he gets blown up trying to save John there will be a scene of the camera panning up into the into the heavens as John Yells at the sky… “Noooooooooo!”… then John will get “Super powers” to go get the bad guy .
John will have to go and save somebody trapped in the complex, this somebody will be a female actor that at first will start fighting and disagreeing with him, but in the end of the movie they will fall in love.
John will not hold his gun properly while aiming, instead he will hold it sideways in a “Gangsta style”, and will have a gun in both hands shooting with unrealistic accuracy.
John will also be an acrobat, able to do backflips and wall walks… although there is only punching in the game, in the movie he will be a martial arts expert, and take on Martial arts expert Zombies. The best fight scene they will have John surrounded, and he will take them all down using choreography stolen from Bruce Lee movies.
John will have to change clips , but in the “Grand Finale” scene he will have unlimited ammo, and be able to dodge zombies shooting at him with mp-5’s at point blank range… He will not be shown packing any ammo, yet every time he reaches into his pocket there will be a new clip there. In the movie he will shoot a truck container full of bullets . yet he will not have a backpack, or any bulges in his pockets. (the only bulge will be from wardrobe shoving a sock in a very gratifying place .)
If he has a shotgun, it will be sawed off, and he will never aim it properly, he will always “Shoot from the hip” and have amazing accuracy. Things he shoots will receive as much damage as if they where hit by a anti aircraft cannon.
Bullets like in all movies will be made out of a special kind of lead that makes Sparks when it hits anything. including Dirt and cement. (real lead bullets don’t make sparks when they hit things)… all explosions will make a Big mushroom cloud of flames, including Flash bangs and percussion grenades . All vehicles will seem like they are made of paper and balsa wood, and will catch fire and explode very easy.
as it states in the article “Doom will not be on mars”. Here is my Spoof instead it will be on a planet similar to earth, and John will be wearing name brand sunglasses, drinking some name brand soda or bottled water, wearing some advertisement “T” shirt and he will be mountain bike riding or rock climbing.
John wont smoke cigarettes in the beginning of the movie, but half way through his girlfriend will light up, and he will ask for one saying something like “I totally Quit, I just want it for the Stress”… Later in the movie, after he wins the love of his girlfriend, he will show how “in” , and cool he is by wearing a name brand Nicotine patch or chewing some name brand Nicotine gum . Perhaps they will make him look really cool and he will be sucking on one of those nicotine inhalers.
Even though John is a space marine, he will still look sexy… Tight black leather pants, with a white “T” shirt, and a black “Bomber” style jacket. later they will have him in skin tight “Spandex” pants and shirt, with either a gun holster or a knife strapped to one of his legs. In the final scene he will find a weapons bunker, where he will change his clothes into something sexy, while playing some hard core metal, or industrial music.
All Female marines will have skin tight “T” shirts that have a “V” cut in the front to reviel lots of cleavage. All Female space marines will have breast implants, and wear Thongs under the uniform.
There will be a hard core Love scene, where John and his new girlfriend get naked and “do the wild thing” while in harms way. they will be trapped in some dark corner, facing certain death, then Johns Viagra will kick in and they will stop the whole movie to advertise name brand under garments,industrial strength lubricants,medication for erectile dysfunctions , and some name brand condom.
John will choose either Coke, or Pepsi.
In the beginning of the Movie, John will be in some kind of cosmic biker bar, where he shows how tough he is by Smoking strong cigarettes ,drinking a bunch of named brand liquor, and getting in a fight with the local people.
John will be drinking some “fashionable” malt beverage, while all the bad guys drink cheep beer.
John will make an environmental statement, but at the same time, he will be littering the landscape with empty bullet shells, and spent charges everywhere he roams.
There will be cars and motor cycles in the movie unlike the game, john will have either an Audi or BMW. If he is riding a motor cycle it will be some “cherry-ed out” Vintage Harley, or triumph…
Like almost every action movie there will be a 5 minuet car chase, where the story totally stops and the plot gets “put on pause”. All cars in the future will still be Petroleum powered, but will get great gas millage.
There will be a scene where John’s Girlfriend, will be held at gunpoint, and there will be a 5 minuet dialog, while John says tough things and holds 2 pistols in awkward unrealistic positions, and the evil guy says evil things while he points the weapon back and forth between Johns girlfriend and John… Then something will happen, the girl will get away and either chase is on, or some Big fight scene will continue.
LOL IMHO why even have a DOOM movie, if it dose not even follow the storyline?
well anyways, I bet at least one of the things I mentioned above happens in the movie.
