Frog Warrior Sketch book

Finally got a base mesh ready for my Summer Project.

Im basing this character on some work I did with some students in the BA degree course looking at nature for the creation of creatures for Games characters.

This summer project will hopefully serve as a template for the students next term, in how to develop a character online within a community.

Hey stoppy (great name btw) I love your concept there this character will look really cool I think. So I subscribed to your thread to watch the progress.

Keep up the good work and it will look awesome when he is finished because you have a good strong base concept.

Nickname given to me by an old boss of mine,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Im using this to get back into Zsculpting, im already thinking that some of the issues im facing tight now is to do with scaling, Does it matter the size of the origional model from MAYA?

Just checked out your zbrush gallery, Nice tree frog… I see why the interest … Ill do my best for you.

the only time I have an issue with scaling is with the physical shaders in maya/mental ray. The other issue is with displacement maps but only if you rescale your imported mesh in maya. BUT . If you use decimation master you dont need to worry about displacement maps anymore.

I hope that helps answer your question  :+1:

##its probably just me then, Im still stuck in the traditional ways of Games characters and have only had a chance to use Zbrush for some Environments so far.

It may be a long summer but Ive just got a new batch of Gnomon DVD’s from out LRC ready for the students in September.

Minor Update, pose and main body … Alphas over the weekend .

Looking good so far…Frog warriors are Awesome…
Maybe drop the stomach a little to give it some gravity…
Nice character…

Agreed, Im on family day today… So Tonight (GMT) I’ll be looking at adding some of the props and details to the tool, then I can really pose the warrior. I’m adding a Game rig in MAYA so Ill get the main detail done first then Im going to try out the decimation master zplug to bring it back into maya.

Thanks for the C&C … ill drop the stomach and add a little uneveness.

Here is the update for Today,

  • Dropped the gut slightly and taken out some of the weight around the top.

  • Completely redone the spine and ribs, discovered id used the mesh with out the UV’s corrected on the origional.

Added some detail with the rake brush .

UV done in MAYA using Zebruv v1.2.1 great script for controlling the uv mapping process.

update,

Been working on the whole workflows rather than sticking to noodling the model, over all Im happy with it so far, but ive noticed several major improvement areas for the base mesh,

Im going to go back to MAYA and build in some better topology for the head and the hands/feet. Im also going to model some of the features that need to be present like the weapons and the clothing.

Working up a few comments I received Ive made the knees longer and tried to shorten the ankle to foot part, started to add some props.

Im ditching the Zsculpt done so far as Ive added a few extra bits of Geometry in the main model.

Looking at some of the amazing zculpts coming through at the moment, Ive realised i need to make an effort to extenuate the muscle structure of the warrior, for this im going to try and source some human reference that i can adapt to the characters story line.
