Freelance questions

So I have been offered some freelance work making a cinematic character. The client wants me to figure out how long it will take, and how much money I would like to recieve for the project.

I will be creating the character(Humanoid) with armor, hair and fur, rigging the character, animating the character, lighting and rendering, final editing with sound fx.

I was wondering if any professionals out there could give me some input? I am very confident in my producing abilities.

How much time should I give myself? What do you think is a fair price?

Thanks guys,

I always estimate based on my hrs. so for skilled labor like zbrush model making 22-45 per hr I think is reasonable, depending on experience.and client…if it takes 40 hrs to do the job well @ 22$ you just made $880 bucks… its a simple formula and might not be up to GAG standards but works for me… I would love to hear some of the top pros who do freelance give some insight…

Ask the client for a budget. Then when you are happy with it do it. Or don’t. The other way around will just cause trouble if you have to run over the forecast.

Best advice I could offer is double your estimates. It will always take longer than expected. Also require half upfront and full payment before delivery. Then of course, have fun with it
