Freelance Charecter artist Insight

Hey guys I had been working a year an a half for a production house before it shut down. In that time I really learnt a lot about the way how to work on a project. I was thinking now that I have time to work on a portfolio and in the future just take Character design projects for companies so i was looking for advise on stuff to do and not to do as i am taking freelancing a main source of in come and is there a particular website that i can go to to get certain jobs for character freelancing
A friend of mine a while ago mentioned that with the internet you can get international clients that give you character to design and texture so if that is so then was wondering if there is someone who could lead me to such a website or even point me in the right direction

Hello Marcellino.
Thought I’d spend a few minutes replying to your question.
Freelancing as main source of income is definitely not easy since big companies (both film and games) don’t usually outsource work unless for very specific reasons.
Though you can get a decent amount of work and, if lucky, get 3-4 big projects per year (big projects = very well paid).
Build up a very strong portfolio and just show the work you’re really happy with even if it’s just 5-6 designs.
Then post stuff in forums (I found a lot of recruiters on this website for example) and ask around.
It’s not easy to get monthly work but with a strong portfolio (showing specific skills, no generic stuff), good connections and a bit of luck…you’ll get some
Check the Zbrushcentral forums weekly since sometimes people look for artists here and also polycount.com.
I hired a lot of great artists looking at these websites.
Eventually, when you’ve worked on a lot of stuff, you can start to look for an agent or manager.
Hope I’ve been helpful, even just a bit.

Cheers!

Location, location and location. I’d point out that weekly might not be fast enough. It’s certainly not if you are trying to buy a copy of ZBrush from someone on here. Hours or minutes is the timeframe, be there when it happens.

Yeah DigitalFreaky hear you out on that I actually live hear in India and the companies here are not doing the work that I want to do so i was not growing with them but there are a lot of freelance jobs for jewellery designs, architectural stuff etc that i can take on to earn a living and it is on a regular basis have spoken to people who have do it for a living. Fir now this will do cause the whole reason is to earn income make and make great portfolio.
Yeah and when i was working I was really long hours like every single day so never got anything that i could put in a portfolio that would showcase my talent and skill but will be taking this opportunity to do so definitely will be posting again on zbrush cenral and other forums thak you so much for your insight

Hey Doug I did not get what you meant, can you please get back to me and elaborate on what you were trying to say
