Fix peaks

Hi everyone,

I don’t know if I’m the only one to have the problem because I can’t find anything on the forum. I’m strugling with zbrush to fix this kind of surface.

My goal is to have a nice and smooth surface.
Obviously the Smooth, smooth valleys, and smooth peaks are not fixing that.
I tried Flatten or Trim Dynamic. Ok the surface is flat but when you smooth after, peaks come back !
Polygons are concentrated in some area, I try to have more homogeneous polygons (size and “direction”).

I think Dynamesh can be used to solve this problem, but in this case, this area is a part of a big model and apply dynamesh will make me loose a lot of detail in the other areas (smooth areas without peaks problem).

Thank you a lot, I’m really stuck !

That geometry is not adequate for modeling and will continue giving you problems. You could use Zremesher and re project details. Anyway some solutions if you keep the current topology:

You could have micro holes. Using the close holes option in tool-geometry could help. Also I would check the integrity of the mesh in the same menu as looks rather messy.

In any case you could try the alternative smooth: press shift smooth and release shift while continue smoothing.

If this is not enough you could try to reduce the minimum connected verts to smooth as it could get rid of the spikes, at least for a while. It is in the brush palette.

Wow, thank you Altea for this quick answer !

I tried the technique with minimum connected verts to smooth and it gives pretty good results.
I also tried the alternative smooth, but it’s not effective.
I use the close holes too, thank you !
I fixed the mesh like you have said.

This is the result

It’s a lot better but not perfect, because polygons are still messy.
Do you have an idea ?

I’m not sure to understand what you call “re-project details” after Zremesher ?

Thank you a lot Altea !

Ok, your realy good advices gave me an idea. In modify topology menu I saw “Weld points”. I put a distance of approximatly 15 and I clicked “Weld”. Then I smooth with standard smooth brush.
This is the result !

You can see, it’s still not perfect but it’s good enough for me !
I hope that can help other people !

Thank you again Altea !

I’m glad you solved it. Now that I can see more of the geometry it seems a scan. Normally the scans needs fixing the geometry, starting with welding verts.
