What’s going on here? my doc is 1024x1024. Yet when I click fit to view it doesn’t erm, fit the view. I have tried zooming out, actual view and then fit to view but nope. Tried restarting. Tried using a standard plane. Nothing fixes it.

Got it working. I was cropping rather than resizing when adjusting the image size
