Hello everyone. I have been spending most of my free time (an hour per night when I’m lucky) working on the head model I posted awhile back. I gave up trying to make it look like me, now my goal is just to make it look human (the blank stare is mine, though). Here’s my progress so far. I would appreciate any suggestions you can make. Thanks!
Hi Brn,
That’s a mighty fine head…you went bald early.
Attaining a likeness of a young person is difficult…older people have more pecularities…wrinkles, beards, prominent facial features etc.
You have certainly portrayed the young face well.
The ears…when I begin ears I raise the shape slightly on the side of the head, then I adjust my model so that I am looking almost down on the top of the ears, then I build up and away from the side of the head on the slightly raised ears drawn earlier…this serves to bring the ears out from the head…if that makes sense.
Then I get in behind the ears using the alt key…and carve into the base to bring the ears out further. Use the methods above for the lobe.
Your eyes…to my mind are almost right…except they don’t quite have their own "identity’ they need to be seated in the socket better…this can be achieved with more work on the lower lid…and area.
On the far side of the face…to my mind not enough shape from cheek bone to lower eye lid or to upper socket eyebrow area…although almost right.
The nostrils…while not wrong…could do with a return wider area where they turn into and up into the nostril.
However…this is a mighty fine head model…I would be proud of it if I had modelled it. I haven’t seen many better than this one…In all it shows great ability with ZBrush, and art skills.
You are going to be an artist to watch out for. Keep it up.

gurgler,
Thanks for your very helpful comments. I hadn’t even realized I nailed the ear to the side of the head. It didn’t start that way, but I guess I got carried away with the BLUR brush!
Boy that is some fine head modeling-I don’t know why but I think the nose was done just right. For the first post this is impressive.
