Finished ZScript: ZNotePad

ZNotePad is an easy way to write ZNotes without having to worry about scripting.
It is ideal for those who are writing tutorials or who want to annotate their recorded zscripts
for publishing on ZBC.

 • Enter text directly from the keyboard.
 • Preview your note at any time.
 • Add an image, text color or background color at the click of a button.
 • Save all your notes to one text file for easy cut-and-paste into your tutorial.

Full instructions are included in the zip.

***Note: there are two versions, one for US keyboard and one for UK keyboard.
If anyone wants a different keyboard version, send me a message (but remember that ZNotes do not display all special characters).

Edit: NoteMarker
This is a plugin button as suggested by aurick later in this thread.

Pressing the button during a recording will place a short bit of code in the zscript. This can then easily be replaced by a note. Full instructions in the zip. If you’re new to user plugins check out this information .

April 22 2005 : Revision to NoteMarker: now version 04

This is now a bit more elegant. Pressing NoteMarker during recording simply displays a note while adding a placeholder. Press the NoteMarker button after ending the recording to convert each placeholder to a numbered Note which can easily be replaced with a ZNotePad note. If you forget to do this your recording won’t stall (as in previous versions); simply press Notemarker with record OFF to load the file and add notes.

SHIFT-click NoteMarker button for Help.

This version won’t convert recordings made with earlier versions. Instructions in the zip.

very cool!!!:+1: :+1: :+1:
Thanks you very mush!!!

Sweet! This, too is something that will get a lot of use.

Again, thank you.

Sven

Will wonders ever cease? Zcode to write Zcode!

Awesome!

Woohoo Marcus,

This is going to allow me to enjoy some nice weather this weekend and get more scripts done at the same time!!!

Thanks again you lifesaver you!!

Excuse me for posting again, but this little utility is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

Needless to say, I’ve got a few questions about it, how it was scripted… starting with the text window. I can see a use for something like it to allow users entering material names and notes in the ZMats plugin.

I’m going to email you with my list when I get done making a bunch of note popups!

Wow. Very well done.

Sven

[EDIT I just read your included readme file which explains (among other things) how to insert NOTE popups in recorded scripts to create tutorials.

Mark, may I suggest starting a separate thread that explains the steps involved in enhancing recorded tutorials using ZNotePad!

It could encourage people who aren’t ZScripters to see how easy it is to create annotated tutorials that demonstrate and explain whatever special ZBrush knowledge they have to share.

Aminuts and Andre are two examples of people already doing a great job at these kinds of tutorials. /EDIT]

Here’s one idea: Create a plugin that places a Note button on the interface. Clicking that button while you work then adds an easily recognizeable tag into your recording, telling you that this is where you want to have a note. Then when you go back to actually write the notes, you can simply scroll through the recording until you get to one of the tags, add the note created by this utility, and then move on to the next one.

It may even be possible to have the note button call this script while you work and insert them right into the recording. Something worth exploring, anyway.

That could be very practical, what i do when recording a tutorial is to press the movie panel>frame, where i want to put a note, so in the text editor i have that market.

So Very Thankful! You Are My Hero!

Thanks guys for the kind comments.
And some good ideas.

Aurick, I’ve followed your first suggestion and added a little plugin button at the beginning of the thread. (Sven, I shall also add a tutorial in the tutorials forum in a moment. ) Sadly, I don’t think it’s possible to add notes while a zscript is recording (other than by the Ctrl+spacebar re-recording method), at least with current zscript information.

cool this will be very handy addition!!

Thanks Marcus!!

aminuts, you’re very welcome.

And in reply to your question in the DrawSizeSweep thread, yes, I enjoy zscripting very much. It’s all done for love.

Very cool and useful. I’ve been looking for something like this to transfer my scripting knowledge to Zbrush. I’ve really been putting it off.

Thanks Jason.

Just to point out that I’ve revised NoteMarker. It works rather better now.

Cool!! Thanks for the update on the znotemarker script!!

That’s gonna be perfect for dorks like me!!!

Just got a chance to try this out. Sweet! Will make things a great deal easier. Thanks again Marcus.

Your seat in ZBrush heaven is guaranteed.
Go in peace.

Many thanks for sharing

The Flooze

Thanks guys…

Also, small update to NoteMarker. This version rather more elegant.
