Finished ZScript: DrawSizeSweep

All good things come in threes.

This plugin script was developed for piomode in an earlier thread but I’m posting it here (with a slight modification) in case others might find it useful.

DrawSizeSweep provides two hotkeys:

Hold down ‘1’ and sweeping the mouse or pen to the left or right across the ZBrush interface decreases/increases Draw Size.

Hold down ‘2’ and sweeping the mouse or pen to the left or right across the ZBrush interface decreases/increases Focal Shift.

Note: just move the mouse or pen, don’t press the mouse button/pen tip.

Tip: Moving the mouse or pen quite slowly changes the size more quickly.

To install DrawSizeSweep unzip the zip file to your …\ZBrush2\ZStartUp\ZPlugs folder. Next time you start ZBrush two buttons will appear in your Zplugin palette under the More Plugs subpalette and the hotkeys will be available. Please be sure to read this information on user ZPlugins.

…you will have a headache at the end of the week

Marcus,

you have been one busy beaver!!!

Thank you for your time, I hope you have fun doing it!!

any chance on getting one that will change the zdepth as well?? using this script is saving me a lot of hand strain already, thank you.

Good work. Fast and easy.

I agree with the Zdepth option. If not a “hold 3” (as changing Zdepth might be hard to visualize) then maybe a “ctrl + #” i.e. ctrl + 25 or ctrl + 93 etc…

Again, good work.
Thanks

Thanks a lot Marcus, this is very cool!

A question, BTW: would it be possible to do the same thing for moving the mesh around by holding a key? Like the Spacebar acts for moving the whole canvas, but for the edited mesh. I know you can do that with the ALT key, but there is a major drawback: you have to ALT-click on an “empty” portion of the canvas, then move the mouse. If you are working on a face close up for example, and the whole canvas is filled, you can’t do that. You then have to use the Move button on the right edge of the GUI, but I’m using a pen tablet, and I find it rather difficult to use.

So holding 3 different keys for moving the mesh, rotating it and scaling it, without having to click on an empty portion of the canvas, would be just great.
Do you think it’s possible?

Thanks for your reply!

Thanks guys, I’m glad you find it useful.

Here’s a version with Zdepth. Holding hotkey 3 adjusts Zdepth when you move the cursor UP or DOWN; move the cursor DOWN to bring Zdepth forward (-Z), Up for backward.
Hotkey 4 will set the Zdepth to whatever is under the cursor. There’s feedback to give you some idea of where you are.

Michoko,
A compromise may be possible but I don’t think it will work as well as using the Alt key or the existing buttons. If I come up with something workable, I’ll let you know. Remember you can Ctrl+drag any button to where you want, so that might make using the Move,Scale,Rotate buttons easier.

marcus_civis,
Works great. Though I wish I had said “Z intensity” rather than “Zdepth”. My mistake.

Thanks again.

Had a chance to test it out this morning, most excellent! Another example of turbo-charging via zscripts. Thanks Marcus

Thanks for the update! Another fantastic script!

I’ve updated this in a new version posted here:
