Fingers and Toes

I am a noob creating a character completely within ZBrush. When I started from ZSpheres and an adaptive skin, I created edge loops and extruded fingers. However, I forgot about doing the same for the toes. I need help choosing the fastest method to create toes for my character at its current dense state of 2 million polys.

Here are a few options that I’ve considered:

  1. Selecting the foot polygroup, then mask off the toes and using the Move Elastic brush to extrude each toe. I tried this once and it produced undesirable results.
  2. Theoretically, I could drop to my lowest subdivision level and still create edge loops for the toes and use move to extrude them out, just like I initially did with the fingers.
  3. Keep the geometry as is and then build up the form of the toes while using Damien Standard brush (and similar brushes) to create creases which will eliminate the webbed-foot appearance.

If there is a faster or better way, then please let me know. I will most likely retopologize my character shortly after I complete the toes. I probably should have retopologized my character earlier but that is the learning process of being a noob. Whatever process that resolves the toes issue I’ll reuse to add genitals to my male character. Thanks for all of your help.

You have a couple of different options open to you.
You can retopo building geo that will allow for toes.
You can perform a local subDivision to give you the needed geo to pull out the toes.
You can do what you thought of, going to lowest subD and creating loops for toes with an extrusion.
You can build toes in a different mesh, then merge the two meshes together and remove the seams.
You can goZ to Sculptris and let it do the tessellation for you when you sculpt out the toes then goZ back to Z.

Thank you for your suggestions. I will probably retopologize the character with geometry to pull out the toes since I plan on retopo the character anyway. I think next time I will remember to use edge loops at the beginning for both the fingers and toes. Thanks again for your help.
