First of all let me say I see nothing but praise and support in every thread I clicked on. I love how you guys support your users. Great to see.
I have been looking for an art program like this since well, I was in the womb. Then I saw this report on Techtv all about Zbrush. I have fallen in love with this program. I just DL it and its awesome! I get to create enviroments like never before. I have Flash 5, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Freehand, Photoshop, Director, Wavelab, and Sonar XL. This will be a nice edition to my compilation of software. Although I get the dreaded illegal oper. error all the time, I cant figure out why. stoopid microsoft. But none the less, great program I am excited to finally have some fun on the computer and not worry to much about code. Thank You again!!!
I never have errors with ZB on my W2K system.
I watch TechTV all the time, but I must have missed that one. What show? How long did they talk about ZB?
I was half paying attention, it was this past weekend. Mighta been Screen Savers. I get those errors all the time in every program, lately w/ Dreamweaver. Surely a microsoft problem. I have looked everywhere for a remedy and I have found nothing. :mad:

How long have you had your copy of Windows running on that machine?
The Windows 9x series is notoriously unstable in a variety of ways. For one thing, programs don’t always release memory very well, and so you have to restart the machine every few days to let the OS restabilize. Also, you do need to run Scan Disk and Defragmenter fairly often (more often, the more you use the machine for heavy computing – and a lot of graphics stuff is very heavy). I try to run them at least once a week.
If you still have the problems after running them, your next step is to make sure that your virus software is up to date and that you don’t have any bugs lurking.
If there are no viruses to be found, ask yourself when the problems began. If it was right after making a hardware change, or after installing a program, then the change could very well have caused the problem. Various programs share certain elements, called .dll (Dynamic Linked Library) files. These files get updated all the time. Unfortunately, Windows 95 & 98 will let an installer replace .dll files without looking at how old they are. As a result, you could have just installed a software that was published before several of your other programs. The .dll(s) with a version that your existing programs depended upon could then have been replaced by an older version without those elements. The end result is that the new program works fine, but other stuff goes haywire. Windows Me checks .dll versions during installs, to prevent this problem. Unfortunately, if this is what happened to you then it is going to be very difficult to get things back to normal. Uninstalling the offending program won’t do any good, as it doesn’t restore your .dll files. And it can be a pain to figure out which program uses which versions of which .dlls. Often, the only workable solution for the average user is to reinstall any program that is now having problems, one at a time, then test the other problem programs to see if they are now working fine before you reinstall the next one. Ugh!
If there are no viruses to be found and you can’t trace the problem to a particular installed software or hardware, then you have to consider how long you’ve had the current install of Windows itself running. The OS deteriorates with time, and this deterioration is accelerated by heavy computing. As a rule, it is normally reliable for about a year before it starts going to pot. Once this happens, the only solution is a reinstall of Windows.
XP is going to be much more stable than the 9x series and possibly even the NT/2000 series. Unfortunately, I already know that Poser does not run on this platform. I don’t know yet about the other programs that we love (including ZBrush). It also will not run any DOS programs, if you have any of those still kicking around (the 9x series still has DOS at its core, however well hidden, whereas XP has completely eliminated it). So make sure that the software that you depend upon will work on XP before you think of upgrading to it.
