I’m not a Zbrush user, or even a frequent user of 3d programs, but I am an artist, and I recently purchased a 3D printer so that I could print off my own references. I’ve already printed off an Asaro head and a pair of male and female torsos, which I found on a 3D printing site, but it took me awhile to find a good muscle anatomy reference to print off, until I found a model by artist Rafael Grassetti, which I purchased and downloaded. I’m not intending to print it to sell, just as a reference for my own personal use, so I don’t think there should be any problem with using it in this way.
The difficulty I’m running into is getting the file into a format I can use. The file came as a .ztl file, and I cannot for the life of me get zbrush to register the model correctly. I’m a Maya user, and I downloaded the trial of Zbrush just so I could convert the file to something I can tinker with in Maya. I didn’t want to ask for help, so I spent hours on google trying to figure this out. Importing, exporting from the tool ui, exporting from the 3d printing plugin, exporting from the fbxexport/import plugin, saving it as a maya file, converting it to multimesh3d and about every combination and mixture of settings you can imagine. Every time the exact same thing happened. All I’d get in Maya was the base. I don’t know if Zbrush isn’t registering the rest of the mesh or what’s going on, but I am beyond confused and I just want to get this one file converted to something I can work with in Maya. If you guys could help me that would be greatly appreciated.
The file might have multiple layers or meshes or something, I don’t know how zbrush handles that kind of thing, as the image on the site shows different versions, and I think that must have something to do with it, but that’s way too specific for google.
The preview image from where I bought the model, if that might help any.
What it looks like in zbrush if I try drawing with the file loaded. It shows up properly so it’s loading something, but I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I’ve seen posts on how I need to convert it to a 3d mesh from a 2.5d tool or something with the convert to polymesh3d button before I can export it, but I’ve tried that many times and have gotten nothing but the base every time when I export it.
The glorious results of all the frustrating exporting importing mesh converting and general hopeless button mashing I’ve been doing. A 2000 polygon base. Every. Single. Time. Any help you can offer in wrestling this file into submission would be amazing, and if one of you beautiful people want to just take it off my hands and convert for me I would be infinitely grateful.
