female anatomical resources-where to find

Hi all, I dont come to the forum very much so I hope that some of you may be able to offer some help. I just managed to get the new book advertised on anatomy(male) and was wondering if you think it’s possible to use that material but go down the road of female anatomy, just following the same principals as the book with reference to muscle structure. I know there will be a few differences but ill be looking up each part on the web as i go.

Browsing through this book I saw skeletal frame images and was wondering if anyone know’s where I can get a good female skeleton from for practicing using those principals. I searched the science site’s but OMG are they so expensive, and the 3d website i’ve found aren’t very good models or are incomplete models.

I’m not very good with zb as i dont use much so I tought i would try the book and go muscle by muscle for the skeleton, just to see what i end up with lol.

If anyone can help with this please, or if anyone has a reasonably good female skeletong they wouldn’t mind letting me have.

look forward to any comments.

regards

rachel.

rachel, there’s a lot of interesting anatomy stuff on this website, you might find something useful:

If you can, you could also try medical schools. Some are quite happy to let you have a look at their teaching samples (ie skeletons and pickled things) if you let them know in advance. It’s the best place to learn how bits and pieces work.

Hello
I know that on some fora I would be frown upon for such a suggestion, but have you considered this: http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=8962 . The program to use it (Daz Studio) is free of charge, the character (Victoria 4 too) and it gives you a fairly decent skeleton that you can easily pose at a very low price (they also sell a muscle map and muscle morphs that you can surimpose very easily on the skeleton http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=5252). I know, it might not sound like a serious solution, but it’s very affordable and produce good results - the male skeleton also exists btw).
Otherwise, I totally agree with Morgs about the AnatomyTools product. If you can afford them, they are totally awesome. It was a huge investment to me (I’m not a professional) but I bought the Female Anatomy, the Male Anatomy, both skulls, a flex stand and the wall chart from them and I don’t regret a single euro I spent. In fact, the products themselves are not expansive considering the quality, what make them expansive for us is the shipping and the taxes we have to pay. But, it’s not a computer, they won’t be obsolete in two years (in fact, seeing the quality, if handled with care it’s in my opinion a lifetime investment). One other thing, it’s just a joy to look at them, they are tools, of course, but they are also real pieces of arts. Another great thing, I had the occasion to contact them about a little problem I had (not related to the quality of the products) and I have to say, that me, the small guy at the other end of the world, I was treated with as much care, kindness and diligence than if I had been WETA Studios. It tells a lot about them, I think they have a lot in common with pixologic, they are in the business to produce great tool that will help people achieve their dreams much more than for the money. Hehe, I know, all that sounds probably very apologetic, but I only have good things to say about them.
I hope you will manage to understand my weird English

Jean-Luc

absolutely; dowloaded her myself actually. (plus a bunch of others i used to use in 3ds max). Of course, some thing really you should do is go out and get your hands dirty on a life drawing (or if you can find one, sculpting) class. I work with a lot of character designers who have come from that route and moved into zbrush; it’s exactly the same system of producing a figure; same rules and methods as clay sculpting just not as messy on the computer!

A good set of reference books (they were mandatory reading list at my uni) were Burne Hogarth’s books; he does a whole series of figure reference for artists and it is litterally the sculptor’s bible. I know it’s not quite a 3d skeleton but the book will give you enough to really understand it enough to draw or sculpt. (if you can get to understand anatomy intuitively you can look at any model and ‘see’ where their bones and muscles are). Also, i’d recommend you get a copy of Greys Anatomy (sorry to sound patronising but not the tv show, the medical book)

Also, one last place you could try to find something like that is a film recycling agency. They exist in the UK, but not sure about the rest of the world, but basically when shows or movies have been made, there are companies who take any re-usable stuff like props or furniature and sell them on cheaply to other people (usually for other films but most or my furniature at home seems to have come from these sorta places). I’m sure with the current trend for medical dramas someone will be chucking out an old skeleton if you look hard enough for a while.

oh, sorry didn’t realise you’re just in slough Racheal. Defo go to the Huntarian museum and the natural history and get some pics if you can. Try the royal college of surgeons (but they’re a bit lame really) or the royal vetinary college (much more friendly, but more dogs cats and horses). Also, if you can go to a short course/summer school at the wimbledon college of art it is the best uk art college for film-type art work and would really help anyone who wants to learn CAD sculpting (the technical arts course is where most of the madamme tussauds and uk sfx companies get their figurative scultors from;( i studied production design for cinema at WCA and i’m not doing too bad either a year after graduation)

Thanks All,

I just wanted to say thank to everyone here who posted comments for me. Thanks for the DAZ input, If the skeleton is a good one I will get that tonight and hopefully get that into my 3d package with the articulation intact.

Also I hope I can manipulate this to scale of some photos I’ve take of a character I’d like to have a go at building. Only thing here are the proportions will be greatly different to the Lady who let me photograph here.

thaks again all.
