Feedback on a Flash site please

Hello all,

Been busting my butt for the last four weeks to meet a deadline for a Flash site. That’s four weeks start to finish for concepts, illustration, meetings, animating, etc., including my regular day job (i’m tired). I was still getting content and direction from the client fed to me over the weekend. This has all been client driven and I would have done many things differently (I’m a designer not a programmer!). The site is not actually finished (it’s still buggy), but the client wanted to get something up by May 13th since the television spots begin today.

Okay, enough of the disclaimers.

The end client is the state of West Virginia. The subject: “Big Tobacco.”

the link:
www.razewv.com choose the Flash site. A buddy of mine took care of the html side based on my Flash design.

Walk through it. Let me know what you think.

Thanks for helping me test drive.

Adman

That is some very slick work there adman. Looks great from where I’m sitting. The soundtrack is a bit naff though

btw where can I get one of them there tobaccy smoothies?

Very nice, I like it.

On the sounds, the QT files replace the web browser window, so the only way to get out of it is to close it out, closing out the flash site.

On the motion, I could not hear any sound with the video.

Thats it so far. Nice job!

(IE 5)

The mp3 files for me opened in their own mini window and the motion
files also opened in their own window with the sound working fine.

QT 5.01
Flash6
IE5.1

That was rather cool (considering the topic). I like the way all of the doodads have their own little quirky actions when you put the mouse pointer over them.

suuuuuper job, Adman! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: not having done even the slightest bit of webdesigning ever i can only guess how much work went into this. well worth it, methinks!

okay, here are my impressions: when checking out the first time netscape communicator 4.6 crashed on me when downloading the first audiofile, but that was probably due to a zillion open windows and an aching cache or the likes. second try: perfecto, all downloads, sounds etc. made it across the atlantic in very lil time and arrived flawless. i love the sounds when exploring the :+1: :+1: :+1: interface, though sillyme got a bit misleaded by the “turn the dial” hint and it took me about half a minute to realize that i had to click the topic-buttons, not the wheel to get on. the two orange triangles in the lower right corner got me playing but i could not find any functionality… i havent visited the html-version. the constant music is fine for me, the place where to turn it off easily to find.

Ran like a dream for me.

Slick as snot (in a good way. )

Nice work!!

Thanks for the look see, everyone. I’m sure I won’t be doing anymore work on it today. But I’m sure I will tomorrow.

As for some of the functionality:
The real client (ad agency) had it in their mind from the beginning to have the main knob power the navigation. I thought, “no good,” too awkward. So they wanted the user to be able to click on a section or use the tuner knob. All the while having the tuner needle jumping to the appropriate section. I’m not sure they understand that this is actually the most difficult part of the whole animation. Well, I’m still working on it. It would have been best for the copy not to encourage using the knob.

The triangles are for scrolling if there is too much copy to fit in the window. The text is loading dynamically from text files and for now, I’m not able to delete the scroll arrows, if they’re not needed, without messing up another box of text that does need them.

The plan is to have other background music which the user can choose from.

Thanks again, you’ve helped my tired eyes look at this from another angle.
