Hi there! Looking to finally start making use of the fbx import/export functionality in zbrush to upgrade my workflow, but I’ve run into a few things that are mysterious/problematic to me that I haven’t been able to resolve on my own/with google.
Firstly im encountering something strange with vert colors exporting. I’m exporting all visible subtools as an FBX file for use in baking in Toolbag using the quick loader functionality which will automatically assign correctly named mesh parts to baking groups, a good time saver. Meshes are coming in with vertex colors, but only one of several that were on them, so rather than simply not working this seems to be having an issue somewhere in the middle. I’ve tried with a few different FBX year versions (2020, 2019, 2018).
It appears that exporting the FBX from zbrush it is picking only one color assigned to a subtool and exporting all vertices in that subtool with only that color.
Export settings:
For example below - here is a mesh that is a single subtool with multiple parts and different colors baked in as poly paint. This (and all other similar parts) come in to toolbag (and maya) with only the teal color assigned to all verts. As a hunch I assigned a single polygroup to the whole subtool but that had no impact.
If anyone knows how I can resolve this, I’d greatly appreciate it!
I’ve also noticed that importing an fbx I got a strange offset in zbrush where it appears to take the bounding box and figure out a center based on that, rather than using the position of the mesh as it should. Its a group of meshes that are symmetrical and all grouped with no transforms centered at the origin, but there is a piece on one side that isn’t elsewhere which would shift where it considers the center of the bounding box to be. I’m not sure why but that created a shift when imported into zbrush, causing things to be off axis relative to how it should be. Any information about that and how to avoid is appreciated!
