Failing to yield good results making armor using topology tools.

I’m trying to quickly make armor pieces that I can further manipulate with the zmodeler brush however its coming out a bit of a mess, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong please help!

If you are using the zsphere topology, try adjust the “dynamesh resolution” and “Density” in Tool>Adaptive skin to low.
