I am Presently creating a mech for a commercial.
i have encountered a problem when creating the normal map too be plugged into maya
The normal map, as can be seen in the screen cap below comes out very faceted. and all polygons can be seen in the normal map.
i have tried creating the normal map with tangent on and off, Adaptive on and off, smooth Uv, and Snormal. i have also tried generating the map with multi map exporter. And have tried re uv mapping it several times. i have also gone into maya and checked the Normals to make sure they were not set wrong. and i made sure the mesh was not set to double sided. I have also tried Re meshing the entire piece with Z Remesher, and uv mapping it again, only to get the same result.
I have include pictures of the piece as well as my UV layout, The normal map. and the High Res and low res version of the chest piece. i previously had it sculpted with much more detail, bolts and lines and other designs, but was forced to back track due too the first occurrence of this issue.
Any help you can give me would be excellent
