Extruding via transpose....

Hi all, just doing some hard surface training in ZB 4r6 and I have come across something odd, abd I don’t know (or have forgotten) how to fix it…

You know when you select a polygroup in move mode, hold ctrl + shift and this creates polygons/bevels when you move the transpose tool, well when I am doing it at the moment on the model I am using for this training it doesn’t extrude but creates a replica set of polygons of the polygroup and just moves them - so I get another copy of the polygroup detached from the main model.

If I set up a new tool and do the same then it works as I expect - a proper extrude. So, I’ve done something dumb on my tool in the course - any ideas? I am at a loss, but strongly suspect something simple!

Many thanks
Steve

It sounds like your polygons have somehow become unwelded, but it would be impossible to say without getting a look at the tool in question. Just to refresh your memory, The non-target portion of your mesh needs to be masked in order to extrude, otherwise ctrl dragging the middle circle duplicates the mesh. There can also be no subdivision levels present for transpose extrude to work. You can also extrude by hiding the rest of your mesh, moving the target polygons to the desired end point, and using the Tool > Edge Loop function.

That said, sometimes weird stuff just happens in zbrush, and usually restarting the program and reloading the tool fixes it. If the tool itself has become problematic, sometimes “make polymesh 3d” will sort it. Otherwise remeshing with dynamesh would probably fix it.

Thanks you for your help with this.

If I re-did a make poly3d this did not make any difference, but a dynamesh did fix it (although not helpful in this instance as it medded up my model whatwever settings I used). Hiding the other geometry and then moving the polys and then edge loop did work however so immediate probalem solved - thank you

So, maybe it is one of those Zb anomalies…

Thanks again, much appreciated
Steve

May be this helps

Well, he said that he was able to successfully extrude with other tools, so I assumed he knew the correct procedure for doing it.
