Extract best practices

Hi. I been using the Extract option from a mask selection, but Im having a strange topology that it will give problems if I want to Zremesh it. Do I need to do the extract from a Dynameshed mesh? Any pieces of advice when using Extract?

You guys rock! Thanks!

For a general tip, if multiple Subdivision levels are available, I find it’s usually best to make your extracts at as low a SubD level as possible. The lower poly the resulting extract, the less likely the geometry will be distorted.

However this is no big deal. An extract is just a starting point. You can ZRemesh it to clean it up. The whole point of Zremesher is to clean up and simplify overly dense or problematic geometry. Since Mesh Extract produces clean, separate polygroups on the front/back/sides it should be easy to maintain edge creasing while Zremeshing if that is desired.

I too am having extraction issues - often when creating mask imported from Photoshop, applying to what I thought was a high enough poly count (1.5Million?) results in geometry that is impossible to smooth. Is there a way to fix these polys wrapped on themselves? Or should I be using different settings for my initial creating part?? My goal is to ultimately have the form 3D printed. #zbrush-usage questions #zbrush-help
