Export ZTool for 4.6 from 4.7

Hello, quick question, what is the best way to export a ztool for compatibility in 4.6. Currently I can’t open my ztool made in 4.7 in 4.6.
I want to maintain my subdivisions, can I import subdivision levels from objs?

Subdivision levels are not supported by the OBJ format.

What you’d need to do is export level 1 and also your highest level.

In 4R6 you would import both versions with one as a SubTool of the other. You’d then divide the level 1 mesh to have the same number of levels as your original before using Project All to copy the high level details. Now you can delete the source SubTool, leaving just the multi-res model.

There’s a better way.

  1. Backup/Save your file (just in case you need to go back)

  2. Go to your highest subdivision level and hit ‘Del Lower’

  3. Export your subtool as an OBJ

  4. Import into 4R6

  5. Click on Tool > Geometry > ‘Reconstruct Subdiv’

Repeat step 5 until it says it’s unable to reconstruct lower subdiv-level. This will give you back all your subdivision levels and you won’t have to reproject your high level details (which can be troublesome).
