Export/save out a texture and re-apply after ZRemesher

Is it possible to save out/export a created Polypaint texture? Or to re-apply it after using ZRemesher? I can’t seem to figure out how to do it.

Thanks

Yup!

Polypaint and textures are interchangeable. If you have polypaint on a high rez mesh, and want to transfer it to another mesh, you can do that directly with detail projection. If that color is in the form of a texture, then you would first convert it to polypaint, and then do as above.

The thing to keep in mind is that polypaint quality is determined by mesh resolution, so you have to subdivide your target mesh to a high enough level to hold any incoming color or sculpting detail. The same applies when converting a texture into polypaint.

I’m still a bit confused. Basicially, I would like to be able to store the texture, retopologise the mesh, and then restore the texture afterwards. Whenever I retopologise, the material/polypaint is lost, even if I load it up from a save.

I provided extensive documentation of this procedure above. Theres not much more I can add. If the color on your mesh is in the form of a texture, that texture first needs to be converted to polypaint. The polypaint is projected onto a new mesh. If you want to convert it back into a texture on the new mesh, the new mesh must have UVs.

If there is a specific stage where this is failing for you, please document this, and we’ll try to see where it’s going wrong.
