Evil Alien Clown WIP

Here’s my second ZBrush 2 object. It’s an evil alien clown. 4 hours working on him so far. I’m starting to get the hang of this now…: ) I would love to have critique, comments, or suggestions…

Thanks,

Dickie

You have, of course, seen “Killer Klowns From Outer Space”?

I ask not just because of your subject matter, but your user name. For, the Killer Klowns themesong was recorded by none other than the Dickies.

I’m guessing you’re a fan, then.

Ctrl-Z I immediately thought of Killer Clowns from outer space when I saw this head.
Dickie, if that’s what your up to good job. That’s 2 out of 2 that spotted that killer Clown.

Looks cool. I’d love to see you start texturing and painting your head models with projection master.

Thanks for thr Props Guys… And yes, I am a HUGE fan of Killer Klowns from Outer Space AND the Dickies…lol. I am definately going for that Killer Klowns feel, but not modeling a particular clown from the film.

Curious, I will be painting this one up soon. I still have some modeling to do, i.e. neck and hat and ruffles.

If anyone has criticism and or tips, I’d love to hear them too, as that’s how I get better as an artist.

On a side note, I had the honor of meeting the Chiodo Brothers (The guys who made Killer Klowns) back in ‘93. A buddy of mine took me to their studio. When they saw what a huge fan I was of the film, they gave me a HUGE 4’ x5’ poster from the film that they all autographed. It’s still one of my prize possessions. I wish everyone here in La La Land was as pleasant and cool as the Chiodo Brothers…

Again, Thanks for diggin’ the clown…: )

Dickie

I made another clown tonight. Here they are posing together. Everytime I start to paint one, I just end up modeling more. I’ll try and paint again tomorrow…lol

For a second (and third) model, you’ve made better ears than I’ve ever pulled off.

Very nice eyelids, as well.

(we fixate on our problem areas, what can I say?)

There’s not much to criticize. Being an alien, the rules for his anatomy are somewhat lax. And, the idea of greasepaint covers most of the tiny wrinkles and blemishes we might normally worry about with a human head.

I mean, you evoked what you were going for in a big way. It’s all about pushing forward now. They’re right – it’s time to texture these guys.

Thank you for your input Aaron… Ears and eyelids are so hard to do in a traditional modeling packge. At least from my experience.
ZBrush makes them a true joy.
I learned most of my anatomy from Burne Hogarth’s EXCELLENT book, Dynamic Anatomy.
Pick this sucker up. Burne’s sketches lay out muscle, proportion and general blocking of all
body parts in a simple, elegant manner. Study this book and you will understand how to lay out the musculature for your models.
I might make a mini tutorial on how to do ears, as they are easy in Zbrush, once you have the basic concept down.
As for my eyelids, I am NOT happy yet with the ones in my models, though I’m glad you liked them. I’m still working out a simple solution to get them done well in Zbrush.

Dickie

those are cool, look forward to some textured versions

I made a stopmotion clip about a very strange clown. Seeing this thread I concluded that I’m not the first to think that clowns are actually scary.
Watch my clip about the weird clown!
