escape!/CANCEL!!

Is there a generic ‘escape’ button for ZBrush? I ask because I’ve just pressed ‘mask by AO’ on a hi-res mesh and it took 25 minutes to calculate. Obviously I wanted to cancel the operation but could find no way to…

If you hold down the ‘esc’ key on the keyboard it will typically stop most operations like rendering, masking, creating maps, etc.

However, if you are using a windows computer, it may throw up a warning saying the program has become unresponsive. Just wait, don’t hit close, and zbrush will usually come back.

right, thanks. I’m on a mac mostly - so holding down ESC is the trick…

For some operations you will need to hold Esc down rather than just hitting it. The reason is that ZBrush may need to get to the end of a calculation cycle before the Esc is registered.

that doesn’t mean it’d go through the entire 25 minutes and then just abort the result does it?

if zbrush goes through the entire process, you will see/get the result of the calculation, no matter if you pressed esc or not.
