Error will using Zsphere retopo method

Got this error while retopo’ing a model in Zbrush.

Internal Error .\List.cpp Line 172, 182
Locked Main Mem in List-Out
Object:

At the time I was just using the edit topology function and zoomed in on the nostrils of a model i was doing a retop on.

You might try dropping down a subdivision level in case you are running out of memory by trying to retopo highly dense mesh

This mesh is a dyna mesh no sub divs. I have 2 gb vid mem and 8 gb ram on a 64 bit machine. Active points is 1.117 million, which is not that big for a model in respects to Zbrush.

Video memory is not important in zbrush. It is also only a 32bit application so cannot use all that 8GB of RAM.
Alternatively, have you tried using qremesher to get a lower res mesh, then subdivide and reproject the hires mesh back onto it. At least this will give a lower res model that would be more workable for any further retopo.

This is the current retopo’d cage.

Not sure what you mean by sub-div the high res mesh? It’s already densely subdivided by being a Dyna mesh. I’m not sure I understand the process of going from a Dyna mesh or high def model back down to a low res model. (Get crashes while using qremesher as well).

I’m currently working through Joe Dunst tutorial on creating low res from High res game models but that’s where I’m getting these crashes. There are also issues with the topology tools not staying on. When the auto-save and quick save features kick in zbrush blinks
and looses all the topotools I have to manually reselect the zsphere sub-tool and reinitialize the edit topology menu. Every-time it saves or I manually save.

Your comment is strange as well about Zbrush not being 64 bit, I know it isn’t but while I still had a 32 bit system pixologic was telling everyone that Zbrush would no longer be supported on 32 bit systems. What’s up with that? I upgrade to a new PC and now someones
telling me 64 bit isn’t supported or doesn’t make a difference? No offense.

You could also try decimation master to lower the vert count of the sculpt prior to retopology as well. His suggestion to subdivide and project the mesh was aimed more at using qremesh, remesh, or a duplicated subtool with a lower dynamesh resolution. This way you would have an identical model to your current sculpt, but it would have several subdivision levels allowing you to step down to a less dense one.

Do you have a copy of this message, such a thing would be news to me. The only similar message I can recall is that they were dropping support of Windows XP, but that was due to the age of the OS and not due to the 32bit architecture.

Edit: I forgot to mention, but if quick saves are causing a problem for you then you can increase the time between saves in order to prevent it from interrupting you.

Did anyone find out the solution to this issue? I’m having the same crashes. Really annoying.

Video ram and memory ram are two different things. A 32 bit app will use some physical memory in ram for video ram but my video card also has 2 gb video memory built into it which Zbrush should be utilizing even if it is 32 bit and my system is 64 bit.
