Dynamesh subtraction - keeping the subtracted part as a seperate subtool

Is this possible?
I’m using the dyanmesh / merge down with another subtool selected as “subtract” to remove parts from my main subtool, which works great.
I’m wondering if I could keep the subtracted part as a seperate subtool or polygroup.
Would be very useful when sculpting damage/ruins.

If I understand your question, you are asking if the portion of the mesh you are cutting away from the target mesh can be made into a separate subtool, rather than simply disappearing?

With Dynamesh, this is simply a matter of duplicating the subtools that are part of the subtraction operation, and performing the dynamesh boolean as a subtraction with one set of subtools, and performing the operation as an intersection with the others. This is controlled by the icons at the top of the subtool entry in the subtool list.

This is a far easier process with Live Boolean. Since Live Boolean combines meshes non-destructively and creates a entirely new tool in the tool list, you need only perform the Boolean operation once as a subtraction, then again as an intersection, then combine the resulting tools in the tool menu.

If Dynameshing with the Groups function active, Dynamesh will create separate pieces out of all the polygroups at once, however this can result in rough edges or ugly fills at the borders of the groups. For this reason I still prefer Live Boolean for this task.

Thank you so much! The Intersect function did the job perfectly for me, I don’t know how to use live booleans but if you say it’s easier, i’ll learn that too.
