DynaMesh: Retopo removes pinched edges

Hey there!

Just a quick question from a complete ZBrush beginner:
When I’m using the pinch brush to create nice edges, the topology suffers. Therefore I do a retopo, but that of course takes the nice and sharp edges away because they get more and larger polygons.

Is there anything I can do to prevent this or do I have to redo the edges everytime I retopologize?

Thanks in advance!

Are you doing your retopo by hand?
Zspheres?
another application?
Dynamesh?
Zremesh?

Sorry, should have included “Dynamesh” in the text also, not only in the title…

Standard Dynamesh retopo, Ctrl + drag.

Dynamesh isn’t really suitable for final retopo, it’s more for redistributing the poly flow when we are happy with the general shape of the object before we move onto fine details. Going back into Dynamesh after adding fine detals can sometimes be counter-productive.
I suggest trying ZRemesher at this stage, as you can protect the pinched areas and any other areas that have fne details.

Alright, sounds logical.
So it’s just about getting a decent tessellation again and after reaching a certain level of detail, I should rather use the ZRemesher?
I’m not yet familiar with it but I’ll just go and try it out!

Thanks a lot!

I hope it works out for you. I found a good video tut exlaining the difference between Dynamesh and ZRmesher, and when/why to use each:

It’s only ten minutes long and easy to follow.
