Dynamesh + Polypaint = Losing Material Paints

Hello Everyone!

I ran into something I can’t figure out on my own so I decided to reach out for help.

I have a creature. I have Dynamesh turned on. I thought all details where added and started painting with colors and different materials. Everythig works well. Then I decide that a certain area needs more sculpted details so I sculpt a bit. I need more geometry to add fine details so I dynamesh the model.

After this I lose all the material I painted and I can’t find a way to get it back or to avoid losing the painted material at all when dynameshing.

Is this a no valid workflow anyways or am I missing a step in between?

Any help is much appreciated.

Have a great time,
malessandro

This is a workflow issue. Dynameshing a model takes places at the start of your project during blocking. Polypainting takes place near the end of your project because it deals with detail. Each time you begin a new project you start low res with or without dynamesh blocking your form. The goal with blocking is creating as much shape to match your intended end model goal, typically using a reference. When you have blocked enough at low res using dynamesh, you turn it off and leave it off and proceed to subdivide adding the next level blocking until you have subdivided up to 4, 5 or more times where details come into play.

Its always good to have a set of references to keep your model design on track. I use sketch books to draw various model designs, that I want to sculpt and then use them as a references during my sculpt.

Hope this helps!

Thank you! I will keep in mind to add all the details to the model and polypaint at the very end.
