Dynamesh Not properly increasing resolution

I’m working on a dynameshed model at 256 resolution with around 377K points. I’m trying to increase the resolution to 512 resolution. When I control drag to update the dynamesh my resolution drops to 80K points. I have tried turning off dynamesh and turning it back on. I’ve tried turning on projection. All with the same result. I’ve never had this happen before. Any infor would be awesome.

Did you scale the mesh? The resolution of a Dynameshed object is based on the scale so if you scale it up or down and keep the same resolution, the resulting points will either increase or decrease. So if you scaled the mesh size down, you would need to increase you resolution just to not loose detail when remeshing.

Yes, I tried scaling it up as much as 20 times, and I still can’t get the resolution to increase properly. I did get it to increase slightly by going up to 4096 res in dynamesh, but I still only have 2M points. Past experience tells me this is way to low for the resolution. Now I’m I’m stuck zremeshing, subdividing and reprojecting each time I would have used dynamesh. It’s very slow this way.

You could try using Unify. (Tool > Deformation > Unify button)

Maybe you’re expecting too much.

I don’t know if you’ve figured your problem out yet, or if this will help at all, but I had this problem recently with a relatively simple object. Any attempt to dynamesh it at any resolution resulted in a decimated 4k poly object, and the res slider would reset itself to 128.

I ended up using ZRemesher on it first with sufficient settings so as to not lose detail, and from there I was able to dynamesh freely again. Not sure why, but maybe some funky artifact with the mesh was throwing dynamesh for a loop.

Hope that helps.
