dynamesh model from 3ds max getting low resolution

Hi all,

I’ve made this metal bar using the sweep modifer in MAX (on a grid).
But when I dynamesh it I’m not getting enough detail.

Also tried subdividing it a few times without the smooth.

Even then when I dynamesh resolution is set to 1024 with blur set to 0 and projection on.
I get a very low res mesh.

Is this because the base mesh from the low poly needs mores edges/subdivions?

How would you solve this? Or would I need retop the base mesh?

Try to scale up Your object in max.Make it 10 times bigger, then reset xform before export to zbrush.

Hello arsan,

I’ve tried what said, but unfortunate it still didn’t dynamesh high enough. Could it be my shape?
It just a simple zig zag line lofted with (H shape). I made a simple box shape similar to the H shape in max and
it dynameshed too 2k.

Turn on Dynamesh and set resolution to what you want then go to Tool>Deformation and click ‘Unify’ then Ctrl+LMB+drag on canvas to remesh to the higher resolution. Also, if you lay down a short stroke, like smooth for instance, after you change the resolution then Ctrl+LMB+drag, that seems to work also. It seems that you have to do a stroke, otherwise ZBrush doesn’t see any change to the mesh and won’t remesh to the higher resolution.

Hi,

Thanks for your tip. will look into it. thanks.
But It seems that the mesh is much to long that’s why it doesn’t dynamesh right. I detached one piece in max
and re-imported and dynameshed it… and it work perfect. I’m getting much higher resolution. So its a scale thing too.
So i’m gonna reconstructed it differently.

You’re right about mesh shape.Dynamesh is using cube for projection. So in case of very long objects as your, there will be not enough cross resolution.

Using unify or rescaling in max won’t work to good with Your mesh;)
