(Dynamesh) Fusing subtools creates scars on surface

Hey everyone!

Running ZBrush 4R8 I keep running into the problem that fusing two subtools together and remeshing them creates strange scars on the surface. In my current project I tried to cover a hole I had created earlier with another subtool I created for that purpose. After remeshing I was left with scars of both subtols edges on the surface.

  1. Hole I needed to fill
  2. Inserted subtool
  3. merged down
  4. remeshed

I tried to fiddle with the Dynamesh settings for SubProjection etcetera but had no luck.

This behavior of remeshing two subtools together creates problem for me quite often. Another example would be when I cut a sculpt in half and clone/mirror it to make it symmetrical again.

Thank you very much for your help!

Many kind regards, Arahn

I think a better way of doing that would be:

  1. Hide the interior of the hole.
  2. Delete Hidden.
  3. Fill holes.

For your clone/mirror thing use Mirror And Weld instead.

Hi!

Thank you for the suggestion. In this isolated case that would be the better workflow, yes. But fusing together or subtracting one subtool from another is a regular step in my work and as such these ripples a constant nuisance.

Especially when making parts ready for 3D printing this behaviour costs my hours in what yould one be minutes of work. When part (A) needs to fit into part (B) I clone part (A), inflate it by 0.1 and substract it from (B). In the Live Boolean view everthings looks perfect, but after remeshing I end up with these artefacts again
