Dynamesh always sticks to 1443k polygons

I have a model that every time I use DynaMesh it always goes to 1,443K polygons, no matter the size of the model or the resolution I put in DynaMesh, I need a model with the highest resolution, can anyone help?

Hello @Uruckas ,

There are a few things to keep in mind about Dynamesh:

  1. If the “Project” option is not enabled Dynamesh will not update itself if the mesh has not changed, even if you have changed the resolution slider. So subsequent Dynameshes will always return the same mesh poly count. In order to force the mesh to update you must either make some sort of mark on the mesh and change the position of some points, or you must enable the “Project” option which will force the mesh to update every time.

  2. The maximum polycount potential is determined by the resolution slider and the surface area the mesh occupies in the bounding box. In most situations, the size of the mesh does not play a role, but the shape does. A cube perfectly occupies the space in the bounding box, and therefore will be able to receive more polygons than a long, slender tube. No matter how small you reduce the polygon size, there will be a limit to how many polygons the latter shape can recieve. So a mesh with a lot of long, slender tubes or spokes poking out increase the size of the bounding box, without occupying much surface area in it. A mesh like this will always have a lower polycount potential.

  • The exception to this is if a mesh is especially tiny in the worldspace. At a Geometry> Size> XYZ of 1 or less, a mesh may sometimes receive a resolution multiplier at various size threshholds. If this didn’t happen it might be impossible to capture the form of the mesh at that size.
  1. As the Dynamesh documentation explains, Dynamesh is a tool for rapidly developing form up to about a medium level of detail. It is not a tool for capturing fine detail. Most typical meshes will see an upper limit of 3-4 mil polygons at max resolution.

Good luck!
