dsl connection for mac in germany ?

hi, time come and i realise i have to replace my slow internet connection with something more speedy

i have some problem though, since information i find are contradicting … as i have a mac i cannot go and buy a ready made package, since they are pc only …

hey, if there are any mac users in germany using dsl, please help me

i do have mac with macos 9.1 and an analogue telefon connection.

i want dsl with flat rate as cheap as possible (and not telekom (i had much trouble with them in past))

questions :

  1. what hardware do i really need ?
  2. can i choose any provider or are there special for mac ?
  3. when i have hardware, how do i get connected to internet ?
  4. are there things i did not ask but important to know ?

…hmmm, if I am not completely wrong, you might have to change to ISDN first (phone).

Lokking for a provider: try “1&1”, they are offering some nice bundles (got me a Zyxel Hub/Switch/DSL-Modem there, including a 10GB stock of data transfer per month). The Zyxel came 50% off the regular price, and those 10GB are more then enough, even considering those two monsters (aka “sons” ) that are online 24/7!!
Good luck!!

Connecting such a device is easy: for each PC you need the ordinary LAN-cables, configuring the HUB >>> this thing will do the connection on it’s own (you “tell” what numbers are bound to your contract, it remembers). All you have to do is switch the HUB on, and eachconnected PC is able to go online (no sort of “master” PC that has to be on all the time).
Considering money: for the device and the needed software (you’ll get some nice bonus-proggies)it will be something under € 300, monthly payment depends on the kind of contract you’ll have. I cut down my cost to 30%, nice thing!!
AND: along with your contract you’ll get the usual amount of email addresses, can build your site, and all the rest of the regular thingies!

hi zerebrom, thank you for your kind help.

first, is that what you say all meant for mac ? often things are quiet different for mac …

i checked that analogue telefon is ok for dsl. i will check out 1&1, this sounds interesting to me.
this bundle you mention, this seems to be more than i need. i only want connect one mac to dsl, so i do not need hub i think.
my mac has built-in ethernet. and someone told me then i only need a dsl-modem, and not a switch and not hub, is this right ?

Yep, the hub/switch is only needed if you got more the one PC/MAC to connect.
1&1 is offering a solution for nearly every configuration - just like some other companies as well.
Good luck again!
