Drawing Books

Not sure if this is the correct place to post… but i am wondering what you guys use and or use as reference when you start to sculpt in Zbrush… Are there any good drawing books available now that you recommend?

At the moment i have troubles with the proportions on my characters…

any advice would be helpful or any links to any great material would be nice as well!

Thanks again!

I picked up one of the anatomy models from www.freedom-of-teach.com
there are also a few books worth looking at

Anatomy drawing school by Andreas Szunyoghy and Gyorgy Feher this covers animals as well as human anatomy.

Also for faces there is a book called close up by Martin Schoeller which has lots of close up photos of celebrity faces it is great reference for for the face

and there is also 3d.sk which has loads of great reference

for drawing videos you CANNOT go past the sturcture of man
You can watch most if not all of them, online (but low rez) but you might as well buy them because its only $35 for 5 DVDs!! and the stuff is great. well worth looking into and supporting.

that closeup book looks amazing… i will def be ordering that tommorow… or sometime soon!

the dvd… i dont know quality seems dark and cant really see whats going on…

any other books or such anyone else would recommend?

i’d also reccommend the structure of man dvd’s.

his voice is like nails on blackboard (and he waffles now and then about ‘invention’ and ‘the artist within’ etc), but the content is great, and its dirt cheap. each lesson is between 10 and 20 minutes, makes them easily digestable, you don’t feel like you have to set aside loads of time. Do one a day, do 5 a day, very easy to set your own learning pace.

the video quality is fine for the purpose, you can tell he’s watching a feed of the camera as he’s drawing, he always ensures you can see what he’s talking about.

For muscle anatomy i would recomend “Strength Training Anatomy-2nd Edition” by Frederic Delavier.
http://www.humankinetics.com/products/showproduct.cfm?isbn=0736063684&showsamples=yes

The book was designed for bodybuilders, but with its 400+ illustrations, it makes a really good reference for modeling muscles & etc…
And with that book you could learn to sculpt anathomy and shape up your body at the same time. ^^

thanks guys… digging these references… trying to decide which to get… anyone else got some great books?

third vote for the
structure of man
and his “understanding” (you’ll get that if you watch them)
but anyway very good stuff I’ll have to agree with the voice thing but I have the selective hearing of the highest order and can tune out just about anything;) ask my wife;)
