DPI ZScript - A Document-size & Print-size calculations + Print-size preview

Hi
The DPI ZScript is a utility ZScript which you may find helpful when calculating the print-size of a ZBrush document or when creating a new document which is intended to be printed in a specified size and resolution (such 5x8 inches at 300 Dots Per Inch ).

:large_orange_diamond: :large_orange_diamond: :large_orange_diamond:Click here to download the DPI ZScript :large_orange_diamond: :large_orange_diamond: :large_orange_diamond:

Installation instructions…

  1. Extract the downloaded zip file and put the extracted dpi.zsc file within your ZScript folder.
  2. Launch ZBrush and load the ZScript.

Print-size preview:
This script also allows you to preview the actual print-size of a document. The ZScript contains a calibration slider which allows for accurate print-size-preview regardless of the size of monitor and resolution used.

In order to calibrate this slider you simply use a ruler and measure the length of the slider on your monitor. When this value is entered, the ZScript will accurately adjust the print-size-preview to fit your monitor size and resolution. Furthermore, the DPI ZScript will ‘remember’ the result of the calibration and will automatically use it in subsequent ZBrush sessions.

Hope you’ll find this ZScript useful

Note: This is a preliminary version of the DPI ZScript, the final version will be included with the next ZBrush release (v1.6)</font>

thanks pixo

Many thanks Pix,for this nifty utility.

Thanks, very useful Pix. Once 1.6 is out could you make an in depth texturing tutorial for us mere mortals?

thanks very much pixolator this will come in handy for me to remove adjustments that i have to make in free hand.

Thanks…a very welcomed addition.

Greetings,

Pix. I hope this question isn’t off topic.

I tried out the script and I’m still a little bit confused about dpi. When I open a Z-brush bitmap image that I have produced at 640 X 480( 300 dpi print ) and then look at the Document Info in Corel Photo-Paint it says the image is 72 dpi. Is this the monitor resolution of the image and not the print resolution? I’m a bit confused.

Many thanks for this really useful script - it sure takes out the legwork (and brainwork  ).

I don’t know if it is intentional or not (given what the script does it might not be possible), but modifications to active (editable) tools using the ‘Deformations’ palette are not automatically updated in the main document window (but are in the preview window) when this script is running. You need to close the script for the modifications to be updated.

CORRECTION: if you apply the modification and left-click within the main document window, the modification is then applied.

FURTHER CORRECTION: after playing for a bit and even after closing this script Zbrush would not update the main window to display applied modifications at all, including when clicking in the main window.

I’m wondering if it is just my system - is anyone else able to give this a try and see if they can replicate it?

Size needs to be calculated before you start painting if you’re going to use the Resize button. Otherwise, the pixols that already exist on the canvas will be stretched.

Hi Aurick

Sorry, I don’t think my post was very clear.

Using the script I set a document size. Then what I mentioned above was happening with 3D editable tools (in edit mode) when applying deformations from the Tool>Modifiers>Deformations palette, i.e. the deformations were not automatically updated in the main document window, but were after clicking in this window.

After a while, however, it got to the point where deformations were not shown in the main document window no matter what I did (clicking in it or closing the script).

Hope that makes a little more sense.

Thank you very much

I am about to post this question , then here i am
