doing animation

Hello,

Can someone please tell what programme best suites for animation. I know zbrush is really cool for modelling but can it handle animation…this I dont think…Well maybe it can cos I just ot the zbrush software not too long ago.

What about maya…I have heard so much of maya. A friend told me I can use maya for animation…is this true?

Zbrush is really cool for modelling almost real life objects and I really love the programme and it’s really fast at rendering them…cool…

Can someonle please help…

Regards,
‘kk’

PS: when I mean animation I mean animation like Toy Story or Ants.

Zbrush cannot do any kind of animation worth doing. It can be made or so ive heard but pretty poorly. Zbrush isnt made for animation.

Maya is a fantastic program, alowing you to animate, light, render a scene and so much more, such as doing fluid and physics effects, hair…Its great. Its the program of choice in the film industry.

You could also use 3D Studio Max, its like maya but mostly geared for game making.

Both are complicated programs; Maya especialy. It will take you many hours to understand it, but if your into 3d then you should deffinatly learn one of them at some point.

Hope that helped.

Hi there,
Well I would like to say you can not use Z brush for animation, but you can use 3d studio max, Lightwave or Milkshake to do simple animation.
I use 3d Max most times, and you can actually achieve cool rendering using vray when you have advance in it.

I would advice purchasing a later version of Max, I use 3d Max 8, but a later version. If you have any more question, you can ask.

are you guyz now saying I should get the maya software programme for animation…if yes…what will I use zbrush for since maya does a good job at modelling…

thanks guyz…

…training you with this little free true gem of Anim8Or

Zbrush is very good when you want to model characters, and other organic forms. Maya is good when you need to make other things, such at sets, or non organic objects. There are two primary ways to model in Maya; Nurbs, and Polygons. Maya is also good at modeling a base mesh for importing into zbrush…then adding detail in zbrush and exporting it back to Maya to finish the scene. As I said before Maya is very advanced, so I recommend starting out with the basics such as the link that was posted above.

If you do decide to download a demo of Maya to try out there are many sites that offer free tutorials on understanding the basics. Maya also comes with a nice help file and plenty of basic tutorials for you to start learning with.

It’s going to be hard but in the end; with 3d you can make anything and everything you can imagine. That’s the beautiful part about 3d.

This isnt a competition between Maya and MAX. But I have worked with both tools, and I would say the workflow of max is easier to understand than MAYA. You can try out Max 6 or 7, then go through the tutorial, its comes in handy most times.

As the other members said, you cant use Zbrush for animation but you definately use it for modeling, and even sending to other advance applicator as a simple mesh.

thank you very much guyz  …I think now I am clear about the two programes and how they work independently…what I’ll do is to download a demo of maya and try it out b4 purchasing.

as for 3d max, if I have zbrush, photoshop and maya…I think I am okay as a digital artiste.

zbrush is cool and I am still gonna keep using it even if maya seems to be of higher standard…

modelling in zbrush has never been easy to me…thank guyz…I apreciate all your replies to my question…
