Does Zbrush have Patch, delete, etc (like in Mudbox?).

Hello Everyone,

Currently I am using the trial version of Mudbox.
It’s awesome, but I hear Zbrush will work better for what I do.

What I do:
I scan our sculptures and then smooth, sharpen, modify, and shrink them.
Then print them at much smaller sizes (less than an inch).
Then get them cast in brass.
Then send them off to be manufactured, bring them back, sell them.

The scanning/printing process is new for us.
I’ve learned a lot in the last few months…

One very important lesson: I need a program that allows me to clean up the scans. Critically important is the patching of holes.

My mudbox trial is running out and Zbrush has no trial… I’d like to get Zbrush though as I hear it would be better suited for this but what I haven’t been able to find out is: Can I paint a selection of faces, delete, select borders, and patch?

Thank you!

there is a cap holes function and a remove hidden, polygroup, etc.

Zbrush works extremely well for what you need to do.

My workflow is Scan > Cleanup > Detailing/Modifications > Print

Zbrush is incredible to work with doing this kind of work, especially with dynamesh.

That is my workflow as well.

Got Zbrush today… Looks like the learning curve is a bit steeper than Mudbox.

Haven’t even figure out how to import a obj properly yet! In mudbox I just imported it, then could zoom and flip things around, paint areas to delete/clean-up, etc.

Looks like I’ll need to go through some tutorials to do the same stuff in Zbrush. Ended up getting mudbox for free (student version) so at least my work won’t slow down while I learn zbrush as well.
