Does ZBrush Crash Also For You When Getting Out of Edit Mode and Hitting Scale??

Does this happen to you?

You get out of Edit mode and then maybe accidentally hit E or R and then ZBrush suddenly crashes?

This happened to me once when I hit Ctrl+N because the document glitched and after I dragged out the project, I accidentally hit E or R and it crashed.

I then tried to duplicate the crash so I know to avoid it…

So is this happening to anyone else?

Zbrush version? OS?

Does it happen with every tool, or just a specific subtool? Is the polycount too high?

Hey Spyndel,

Forgot about the new policy as well:

Zbrush 2019 Subscription
Windows 10
i7-5820K 6-core OC’d to 4.3GHz
64GB of RAM
GTX 980 TI
Samsung 960 Pro 2TB
Wacom Intuos 4

Here’s the screenshot of the ZBrush interface before hitting E outside of Edit mode when loading a saved file of a simple Polymesh Ztool with nothing done to it:

To Spyndel:

It occurs with my projects and even the default included projects, and the simple project containing just a simple Polymesh Ztool.

It only happens on a saved file. If I start a new project and load up a ZTool, get out of edit mode and hit E for scale, it doesn’t crash.

I’ve already hit up support and they’re looking into it, but was just wondering if this is happening to you or anyone else :o

Not here. Sorry.

'All good, thank you Spyndel! Now I know it’s more likely something wrong with my system I need to diagnose!

Hi Andrew,

I’ve not been able to reproduce this either. Incidentally, if you are primarily interested in 3D work there is really no need to turn Edit mode off. If you need to clear the background you can press Ctrl+N and any model in Edit mode will be unaffected.

Thank you your response Marcus and testing it out on your end!

It’s definitely good to know I don’t need to get out of edit-mode after doing Ctrl+N.

It’s happened a couple or so times where I accidentally got out of edit mode or the document/viewport glitched or something and I had to do Ctrl+N (but maybe I thought I had to get out of edit mode??) and I’d accidentally hit R instead of T and I’d lose my work and my recording and I’d be like OMG >< lol

I thought if it was a bug maybe it could be fixed or added to a bug-list, but since it appears to be on my end, I have to be far more cognizant when getting in and out of edit mode.

But thank you!

I am having similar issue. Please read my recent post and see if this happens to you as well.

Yes, the Floor being on is what was crucial for me. The developers are aware of this.
