Does anyone else use ZBrush just for fun?

Hi all,

I’m curious – do any of you use ZBrush just for fun? As opposed to using it in your work, or to sell stuff?

Me, I bought the program more than four years ago, thinking I might use it to sell stuff in Second Life or other virtual worlds. I did import a few “sculpties” into SL, but since then I’ve just played with ZBrush for fun. I haven’t done much with it in the past year or so, but now I’m obsessed with it again. I just want to make digital art with this wonderful tool.

Is there some happy medium between using ZBrush for work and using it purely for fun? Are there digital art galleries, or digital art shows, where people can show off their work? Who is the audience for those of us who just enjoy creating stuff using ZBrush?

Thanks, and apologies in advance if my question has been asked and answered already. I did a quick search and didn’t find anything quite on point.

Hi Grotius,

There are lot of folks here that are not pros, I am a have been a photographer for most of my life but worked a few years in the animation field … now I am doing it to please myself mostly. As for an audience … you have a great audience here and one that is supportive of others, incredibly diverse, and amazingly talented!

Welcome! :smiley:

Hi Chalkman, and thanks for your welcoming reply! I’m glad to hear that there are others who just enjoy working with ZBrush for its own sake. And yes, I can see there’s quite an audience here for digital creations. :slight_smile: Besides, I imagine a nice set of 3D images might impress some of my friends and family. :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks again!

in my case, i did use zbrush for fun for years but didn’t shared here for some reason (i did use trial version alot after each release of zbrush of course), during february 2011, i finally decided to buy up zbrush for real and did have much more fun to do and posted some of my works here :smiley: also, i plan to become professionnal but i don’t know how and where to start with… ^^;

but first of all : learning how to do 3D stuff while having fun is the main key because having fun can boost up the motivation, which it’s a very good thing :slight_smile:

Me, among so many others.
This doesn’t mean that I’m not involved in 3d pipeline methods. (retopology/UVs/baking)
But I do agree, having fun, making art, is the most important. A great tool for learning sketching-drawing. Collateral with my papers, watercolors, pencils, oil paintings or photography.

Yes.
