does anyone else have a leathery knob on the heel of your palm?

does anyone else have a leathery knob on the heel of your palm?
mine is all sleek, tender and leathery…
i’m still using a mouse so thats probably why.
has anyone had this and switched to a wacomb and it
healed up in a week or so?
i also notice my pinky gets run over by the mouse a little
when i scroll to the left.
maybe i should put a little of the ice treatment to it

OK without trying to sound alarmist, make sure your not resting your hand on a hard surface for long periods. Also make sure that you do in fact take breaks and that your posture of your arm and hands are right. If not you could be in very early stages of CTS. (I know because I’ve had it!)

Some people (but not all ) also notice a bony swelling on their rest and pins and needles. CTS can take a long time to come on, but once it does your looking at LONG time away from the PC and use of your hand in general.

Firstly a priority if your seing early signs is to mae sure you use a tablet instead of a mouse. ANY tablet will help even a cheap one, although obviously form an artistic standpoint you’d e better with a wacom. I still use zbrush to this day with a brace on each wrist as I took no notice of the early signs so have sort of made it my mission to try and stop anyone else form getting CTS if I can.

Hope that helps

Wayne…

thanks, i just looked up the wikipidia site on carpel tunnel.
carpal tunnel wikapedia
thats mosly what i worry about is when i’m old,
its probably going to really be compounded.
old people with this are crippled practically.
it gets worse when i don’t wear my contact lenses,
because i get really close to the screen and it
exagerates the problem posture…
( they’e increased the cleaning portion of the
NORUB type saline solution…
for me its almost like putting a cigarete out in my eye,
so i don’t know about contact lenses anymore, also.

If your getting carpal tunnel then you need a tablet hands down, and take breaks, Get the teck that you need to prevent it [wish i had when i got it, still with me today] Also you should look into pt it helps alot even if you already had surgery for it. i feel the same way darth, its something that you need to take care of and take the steps to counter it. And i dont also mean to sound an alarmist ether. If you are getting it then do exactly what the docter says, especialy if you need breaks from the computer DO THEM, i cant say enough about breaks and resting its vital and get ergonomic stuff the good kind and dont use a laptop if you dont have to =).

Best of luck i will be praying you dont get it.

i use a wacom and mouse… my knob is my friend, i guess…

never disappeared, have it for the last ten years… maybe longer…

happy knobbing!

chem!

I’d guess that you sit pretty high off your workspace, such that your forearm is at a sharp angle to your palm…if the knob is on the opposite side of your thrumb (inside with your palm up thumb facing out), then all your weight’s on the outside of your wrist and you need to get some support under your upper forearm, and get better position (your arm and wrist need to be straight out in front of you).

yeah sometimes its like i’m doing a frozen “push up” on the
computer desk. i’ve started to use my left hand and its not
so bad. i don’t have any pain or tingling yet , but its better to
just make the switch, i know a lady who had to get surgery
from the repetitive movements of just from making coffee
professionally. and she’s only ten years older than me.

not anymore,

my mom told me i would go blind.

(did i win the contest for most witty response?)

I shot my mouse last week and despite the fact that the cat grumbles a bit it moves rather softly over the table.

The last time I was asked this question was in high school.
Try to develop outside interests.
Cold showers are great too.

( edit: you had to know some sick bastard would respond this
way:D )

all i know is i have a huge sleek leathery
knob with the ice and lotion my aunt gave me on it!
now i have to switch with my left hand because my
right hand is strained from working it too much!

Another bad idea is leaning on your elbow. I learned that the hard way. Nearly wrecked the first time my hand decided to claw up on the Interstate :td:
