Do people actually OWN ZBrush?

Why doesn’t anyone call “HORSE****” here at ZBC??? So much of the stuff here is CRAP! My work here has been crap—sure–but c’mon.

I’ve missed so many quality posts like this: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=054665

because of somebody saying: “hey i’m just learning and here’s my post”
and it’s some play-doh face with cool eyes.

does anyone feel the same way?

Try to remember that the demo version was just released so of course there are going to be lots of inexperienced users, and on that note, we all start out inexperienced.

Plus, the reason people post “WIP’s” is to recieve feedback and advice on improving the quality of their work.As with any CG community the talent is the full spectrum from absolute novice to absolute genius.
I’m sure even Leonardo DaVinci began his career with a few “crap” works as you so eloquently described.

Part of the key to ZBC’s success is its accessibility. It attracts a lot of quality artists because there is a lot of activity. People like to post their work where it will be seen and appreciated.

If ZBC was some kind of exclusive club that only allowed work to be posted if it was of a certain level of quality, it would become daunting. The new and inexperienced wouldn’t post because they’re not allowed to. So they’d go to some other forum. And by the time they got to where their work was of “ZBC Quality”, they wouldn’t bother to come back here because they’re already comfortable posting there. Not to mention that ZBC would feel very snobbish to them.

So ZBC would be very quiet. And in that case, why would the highest caliber artists even bother to post here? Their work would have a very small audience.

Additionally, ZBC has things like the tutorials forum and the Q&T forum. It would be foolish to tell people, “Come here to ask your questions and learn new techniques – but don’t post anything until you’ve gotten ‘good enough’.”

Rather than complain about these wide-eyed, excited newcomers, how about trying something truly radical: help them! Offer advice. Make suggestions. Make them feel welcome and point them toward resources that will help them grow. That way, they can get out of the “budding” phase much sooner, and start contributing things that can be truly appreciated.

yeah, okay—i still feel the same. i really never got much help with my stuff here (besides aurick) and i always went to other forums for advice for the very reason that posts were just pushed to the side.

you know, in retrospect, this is a pretty negative post that probably needs to be closed.

If the poster was as good as he thinks he is … hed be somewhere creating great art … instead… we find him here bashing young minds new to the world of 3D. you really are an inspiration to us all… because youve let us know just how far we are above you in so many ways.

I hope the rest of the community had a great Christmas , mine was.

yes yes yes, i suck i know.

my post was made in haste and i’m a quite frankly a little embarrassed that i even brought it up. should have looked before i leaped—sorry if i offended anyone. i really do enjoy this community and the people here so if anyone was offended by my comments i apologize.

Dude step away from the keyboard. Take some time off. It will all be okay. lol

Would that I could even do a playdoh face

Just getting my license today hopefully, so I plan to be posting a lot of posts looking for help.

ZB is one of those apps you just have to take one step at a time with…

There is plenty of help of here & on the rest of the web…

We all started somewhere, my old stuff looks awful, my new stuff is non existent…

Stick with it…

Congrats Gordon! I knew that demo had you hooked.

Kinda bold abrasive message, but yes… a lot of posts are dough boy and his bastard kin. But hey, why not, my posts were endured as well hahaha.
Afaik there is a thread burried somewhere were people posted their worst work. That’s a fun thread to look at. And hey, as long as no one claims that his crap is a Mona Lisa or a David… all is good. And… I have not seen anyone claiming that.

But again, yes, there is a lot more ‘crap’ imho. My observation is that there is a significant gap visible now which was not there before in that clarity. There is experimental or crap work, and then there is god like quality. There is almost nothing in between. It seems to be very hard for the people who get into 3.1 without prior 2.x experience to utilize the immense power of the more complex functions.

Back to 3D carving and the best for the new year to all artists here, crap or not!!!

One also questions whether the god like ones are zbrush.

Have always liked the program. Being an older kid, have a fondness
for earlier days when people were just plain experimenting and having
fun doing it.
Also if a newcomer arrived, he could be assured of support from
the “North Avenue Irregulars”. People such as Pilou ( always),
Andresloy, Ron Harris, Aminuts, to name just a few that come to mind.

Now we are treated to resumes mixed with demo reels.
The great work that is submitted has been finished and it’s makers,
I feel ,are submitting them not to show what the program can do, but
what they, with their resources can do.

In the pursuit of jobs, recognition, peer acceptance, a lot is being
sacrificed that we old people remember.

I do however still believe this is much more than a hiring hall and a “look
what I did” place.

Forgot, Scrooge was an old degenerate that was turned on by a limp.
At the end of the movie they are going to a motel

God bless us everyone ( Lemon too!!!)

A negative post…sure…but it’s what we as readers of this post take away from it…

me…I am feeling a bit ashamed that my time has become so short that I cannot lend a pat on the back or a hand as much as I used to…I enjoyed doing it…and watching those you help get really good at it is incredibly rewarding…even if all you ever did was say…hey great first post…keep at it!
The power and rewards of life lie in the ‘Pay It Forward’ attitude the original community began…it still exists here…even if it’s not as intimate as it once was.

I for one will try to keep it going as best I can…the play dough posters by the way…are the future helpers here…not the pros so…

enjoy zb and lend a hand when ya can

I was reading this thread and thought it would be fun to make a real play dough head, but my dog ate most of it.

Oh, the Humanity.

I Fr*&6ng love zbrush. Lets model an army and knock mudbox out the universe.

its people like you that make people scared to post here. some people are very good artists when it comes to paper and pen, clay, wax. whatever. the jump to digital isnt always easy for a person to do. dont flame people because they dont have the ability to make something like some others can. give then tips and time and eventualy they will be able to…gesh…

its people like you that make people scared to post here

We’ve accomplished somethng anyway.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

So, I’m a bit confused here as the link in the thread (now?) points to a top row post? I assume it was kindly edited by the moderators?
