Do .obj files contain group information?

I have a model that I created in silo. I added group information, and exported it to .obj, and when I imported it into zbrush I noticed that the group information was gone.

I took a look at the obj file in emacs, and I didn’t see any of my group names in there. Is it silo that’s not exporting the group information or is it the .obj file format that doesn’t support them?

Thanks.

.obj do support group info i recall (might be wrong)

edit: no im sure they do

Hi bill,

it won’t import the names but it will import the groups, if you don’t see them right away when you turn frames on, go to tools>polygroups and click autogroup or I think the other one is groupuv’s or something similar. I would try the autogroup first. I believe the uvgroups one groups by changes in the uv’s and might not match what you set up if I remember correctly.

I was looking through threads and somebody commented that their poser meshes always have “good” groups when they import into zbrush.

Poser meshes are split into pieces. So I split my mesh up into pieces, and zbrush put them into groups.

I didn’t have the quick button on earlier so they may have been there in the first place.
