What I am looking for is something that can really show off the quality and detail of our printer. So pieces with holes or tiny details are encouraged, with special bonus points added to those with the post apocalyptic theme!
The deadline is Friday May 7<SUP>th</SUP> 2010. A winner will be chosen that night and his or her sculpture will be printed out and photos will be posted the following Monday night. We will contact the winner for shipping information and then send out their 3.5" resin print!
Why we are doing this?
Because currently own a highly specialized 3D rapid prototyping machine which we are underutilizing, and we would like to see what kind of interest there is out there in the ZBrush community. Our rapid prototype machine is a little different than what you would normally find; it is designed for extremely fine details, capable of printing down to .001 inch, less than the diameter of a human hair!
[font=Calibri’, 'sans-serif]However to do this the resin we use is light sensitive and can be fragile. It is designed to be cast in another material. We cast our print outs in Chromium Cobalt or Gold but you can make a mold and then cold cast in metal, plastic or rubber. And if you plan ahead you can reuse the mold over and over. This is extremely useful for making jewelry or dare I say it? Your own line of action figures! Mass producible in the comfort of your own home. And we would be happy to help with any questions you might have.
